Maya's 3rd Birthday!

This year I wanted Maya's birthday to be memorable. The big Three! When she was a year old, I didn't do much for her birthday. We were broke and I was simply too bummed out to want to do something big.  This year, I wanted to make up for my lack of enthusiasm.
Maya decided she wanted a Princess/Tea party.  A couple of weeks prior to her birthday, we bought her a princess outfit.  The closer to her birth date, the more excited I got about getting things ready for her party.

I won't lie, I spent a lot of time making party preparations.  I wanted it to be fun for her, yet not too overloaded. I searched online for princess party ideas and some were way too over-the-top. I made some of the decorations and others I bought at the Dollar Store!  Thank goodness.

I wanted to incorporate some of her favorite things at that time...pink, princess, tea party, and of course friends.
Our invitations stated that princess Maya was turning 3 and the other princes and princesses were cordially invited to a royal tea party.

The party was held on Saturday morning around 10AM.

The decorations were set and the food was prepared.  I had debated where to have the party, since our house is so tiny.  I ended up having the party at our house because I had all of the things that I needed...tea sets, tables, chairs, etc.

Everything was set and soon our guests started to arrive.

They played in the backyard and as more guests arrived I had our princes and princesses design their crowns and scepters. It was really cute to see them all dressed up.
The guests were mostly princesses, but we had Prince Arden and Prince Elliot attend the party. I had capes made for them, in case they didn't have any princely attire.

After preparing their crowns and scepters, we played some games.  We played Bingo and other games, which I cannot remember since I waited too long to write this post.

After the games, Kristen read the kids a princess story, The Princess and the Pizza...one of my personal favorites. While she read, I got the tea party food and the assortment of cold 'teas' (water, lemonade, apple juice) ready.
We served popcorn, fruit salad on sticks...so they kind of looked like wands...we had PB and J sandwiches as well as ham and turkey wraps.  We also had pretzel sticks with Nutella and of course chips and salsa, but that was more for the grown ups.
The princesses, especially the younger ones really liked the tea party.  Real drinks in the tea sets!
Kind of a funny story:  So, we have some neighbor kids whom we did not invite because they aren't as good friends with Maya...anyways, they saw we were having a party. So they knocked on the front door, and pretty much invited themselves in.  At first I was kind of mad because it's not really proper etiquette, but Newel said Maya was a really good little host and invited them in, since they were at the door.  So, I guess, the more the merrier.  I just didn't have enough baggies for them...since I wasn't planning on them coming over.

After our feast, we sang to Maya and she blew out the candles from her cake. She was truly delighted. And of course, after cake, it was time to open presents...after wards, we just let the kids play in the patio.

She really liked her presents.  She liked her party.
But she really liked having her friends over.

Here are other angles of the decorations I made for the party.

For her 4th birthday, she wants to have another tea party...but she would also like a summer party. So swimming?
