So the last couple of weeks have been interesting. After we got home from Mexico the family went through some stomach problems that were eventually resolved. It took about 2 weeks, but everyone got better. So all is well, right? Last week as I was on my way to work on Tuesday morning, it was snowing and the roads had not been plowed. I dropped Arden off at the bus stop and I continued on my journey to drop Maya off. As I'm getting ready to stop at a stop sign only 1/3mile from my house, my car won't break and it starts to slide. I look to the right hand side across the street and there's a woman with two children walking to the bus stop. I see them just about everyday. I begin to worry. I'm tapping on my breaks, but I don't have control of my van. I'm just sliding. I really start to worry that I'm going to hit those children and the mom. I can almost visualize it, and I feel terrified at the thought that I'm going to hurt them. So, I manage to stir the van to the left hand side and by some miracle the car starts to slide to the left. The curb side finally stops my van. Afterwards, I drove to someone's driveway to see if there's any damage. Everything looks fine. A lady across the street asks me if I'm okay. I say, "yes, just shaken up a bit."
I got in my car and continued my journey. I feel that my car is not driving so well. It's sliding, etc. Later, I call my dad and I tell him what happened. He mentions that it must be the alignment and to take to get the van realigned. "It's only a $75 dollar job," he says.
The following day I take the van to the dealership. I tell them what happened. A couple of hours later they call me and they tell me that the $75.00 job is more. It's more like a $3,900 dollar job. To make this really long story short. I ended up calling my car insurance. They paid for the repairs(with the exception of the $500 deductible), but I now I will have a rate increase on my insurance.
On the bright side: I'll take hitting the curb side of the street and damaging my van over hitting a mother or the children.
That same night Maya was very sick all night with a really high fever (my children rarely get fevers), very lethargic, and lots of congestion. Newel and I got very little sleep that night and we were pretty concerned about her. We almost took her to the emergency room. The fever didn't break until morning. I took her to the pediatrician and he said she had pneumonia. He suggested to get an x-ray and make sure it was the correct diagnosis. It turned out to be something viral and by the end of the day she was getting into mischief. I was glad to see her getting into mischief that day. Also, Newel gave her a blessing the night she was sick and I know Heavenly Father heard our prayers.
This week as we were getting ready to go to work and school, the battery in my van was dead. The van was parked in a way that no one could get to the van to jump start it. On the bright side Newel was running late and he was still at home when this happened. So he was able to help me. And we got the battery changed...Oh, and the awesome part was that it was still under warranty! That saved us $100 bucks, since I just spent over $500 in the deductible of the van.
There a couple more mishaps that I don't remember right now, but I am grateful that I stayed positive and I tried to look at the bright side of the situations. I'm not always the most positive person, but these last couple of weeks have helped me see that through life's adversity we can still stay positive and see the bright side of a mishap.

I just read your "Tale of Terror" to Paka, while we're waiting out a storm here in Florida. Yikes! That's a tough one to take, with all of the potential of a major disaster, but we're glad you're taking it with your powerful, positive courage. Oh, how we miss you!
