Hacienda de Cortez and School

After our Puebla trip, the kids went back to school, for the final few days of the program.  Maya was still a bit sick, so I kept her home.  That Thursday, I invited Margarita to brunch.  We had been meaning to do something fun together...just us girls, with no children, but there was never a right time.  Since, Maya stayed home from school, we took her to the Hacienda de Cortez, which is a fancy hotel and restaurant.  We had a wonderful brunch and we were like children exploring the hotel.  It was a beautiful hotel and I had a wonderful time with my friend. The food and service were fabulous.

The following day, the summer program came to an end...and just like almost everything in Mexico, it was a party.  There was an end-of-the-year presentation.  The different age groups danced and the children prepared all kinds of appetizers.  Arden was very proud of his vegetable/fruit chopping skills.  Maya did a really cute dance. I don't have one of Arden dancing, since he didn't want to be part of it.  Also,  we visited all of the different classrooms the children attended and collected the arts and crafts projects they had been working on.  Most of the crafts they made were from recycled products.

It was funny to me, every day, when we picked them up from school, the parents had homework...to provide the materials our child was going to use for the following day.  Margarita and I were not very good at remembering the lists or getting the materials in a timely manner. Nevertheless, the children had some wonderful projects to bring home. They even went on a field trip to the movies.  We put Arden and Danna in charge of the little ones (because they insisted on going) and nobody got kidnapped.  A good thing about my children standing out (because of their looks) was that the teachers knew who they were and kept an eye on them at the theater.  I was seriously worried I was going to lose one of them because check-in at the theater was so disorganized and chaotic.  It was amazing to me that there were only 4 or 5 people running the program, yet they had a ton of children to care for.  Talk about overcrowded classrooms.

I really think going to that program helped the children practice their Spanish more.
