Too cute
Our trip back to Oaxaca City was spent on along van ride with the driver flirting with the girl sitting next to him...even though the van wasn't full. She giggled the entire time and even sprayed her perfume on his tie...it was pretty silly. One of the many stops we made was at this hut on the top of the mountains to get lunch.

Once we arrived to Oaxaca City, we walked around the city until we found an affordable hotel not too far from the zocalo. Of course we hit the street vendors for dinner. We were surprised how it was the middle of the week, yet the centro was alive with people hanging out. By this time, most of the Mexican tourists had left and now the foreign tourists were more visible.

The following morning we headed off to the Centro Cultural Santo Domingo, which is the museum/convent/cathedral. This building is about 500 years old...and still in use. The museum was pretty impressive. They had a really good collection.

Pupa action

On the courtyard grounds we found some huge caterpillars that looked really scary. They are called "pupa" and they weren't scary at all. They weren't poisonous, even though they look like they could be. Arden was again on insect heaven and with his special ability to attract a crowd, in no time, there were several people around him. They were watching him play with the 'pupa' and he was encouraging them to touch them...that they were not dangerous or scary. Maya was also into the pupa. She was quite brave...taking after her brother.

The Centro Cultural had a beautiful garden we wanted to check out. However, we ended up not going because we had to be in a guided tour and we didn't have the time to do that. Instead, we helped Arden be at the top of the human pyramid a group of kids formed at the garden's entrance.

Giving away Polly Pockets.
As we walked down the streets, we would make some stops to give away more Polly Pockets.

At Los Arquitos
After the Museum we walked to another place called Los Arquitos, which used to be the aqua-ducts or something like that. Since we were close to the bus station, Newel went to find out the bus schedule back to Puebla, although we were having a wonderful time in Oaxaca, we knew we had to go back to reality soon. Los Arquitos had some trendy cafes and kind of artsy and overall it was an okay place.
Newel was so nice to watch the children while I went shopping by myself. Unfortunately, this was the market closes to the zocalo, so a lot of the things were overpriced. I still got a few great items...for myself...I know I'm selfish...but I don't think anyone back home would have loved these things as much as I did...so I bought them for me.

I like the following photos. Newel took these photos while I went shopping. If I was to name this scene, it would be called something like "How to Make a Friend Fast."
Little girl is watching Maya play (Maya is actually selecting the right Polly Pocket doll and outfits for the little girl).
Maya makes her selection.
Maya gives away the doll....The little girl seeks her mom's approval (there was a photo of that).
The girls become friends and start playing together.

After we were done shopping...the family joined me later on. We headed over to another fancy old church to visit. Unfortunately, I don't remember its name. But, it was a great photo opportunity.

Hooray for ice cream!
The following are photos of us eating. I will say though, we did eat a lot, but we also walked a lot. We practically walked all day to every place we visited, so we burned a lot of calories. Our bodies needed all of that food. Including the ice cream.

Selecting meats.
We had to have the ice cream since there was a plaza by the a church (I think it might be by the church we were jumping at) and it only sold specialty ice cream and drinks. There were some interesting ice cream flavors, like burned milk with tuna fruit on top. Also, Chef Coco recommended this plaza...so we had to go. The ice cream was yummy and the kids had seconds.
We also had dinner at the market. This place was recommended by a taxi driver. It was a pretty cool experience. First, you select your meats. Then, you go to the sitting area, where you wait for your meats, but you can't sit and eat there, unless you buy the drinks from that vendor. Later, another vendor will bring tortillas to sell to you. Finally, another vendor will bring you the toppings you want on your tacos. It was different and a lot of people got a bit of money. Newel was like a kid in a candy store. He was so excited. I was surprised how much food Maya ate. She was hungry...of course, we walked all day long.

As we walked around some more, we stopped at a street festival and we were truly entertained. Its a group of young men and women...who come from some art academy in Mexico City and perform on the streets. They go from city to city performing. We thought they were good performers. Arden was even part of one of the acts. It was pretty funny and Arden really liked participating. It was pretty late by the time we returned to our hotel. We were tired, but had a wonderful day exploring Oaxaca City.
