At the end of our first week in Mexico, Arden lost another front tooth. He was really happy to have lost his tooth. That night, as Arden and Maya were in the bathroom brushing their teeth, Arden leaned over the sink and knocked it over. A lot of the sinks here do not have a base nor are they cemented to the wall. This sink was just placed on a metal holder, like many of the sinks around here. Arden was the unfortunate kid to knock over the ceramic sink, which happened to break in many pieces. Arden kind of fell over and got cut. We were so lucky he only got cut on two of his fingers and a scratch on the elbow. Both of the kids got really scared. I was worried because at one point he was bleeding a lot.
I almost took him to the Red Cross (the only hospital opened at that time of night for emergencies), but once we stopped the bleeding, and cleaned his cut, I noticed it wasn't as bad.
I felt awful. We were their guests and yet we were destroying their house. Within a week's time, we had broken their sink, caused a flood, knocked over the neighbors bird cage from the top of their door, lost a ball, Maya and I accidentally spilled soda on their laptop, and there a couple of other mishaps. I felt awful for all of the damages. I was sure they were going to ask us to leave because we were just causing so many problems. We're lucky they love us and didn't kick us out.
Of course we paid for all of the damages and we haven't had any serious mishaps since the first week.
