So Hot!

So, I've finally downloaded the 500 photos I took during our FL trip. I guess it's time to blog.

A few days after we arrived, we mostly stayed indoors at my parents' house. I would open the front door to their house and this hot humid ball of air would attack me. I don't know why people vacation in FL during the summer months. It's terrible.

People, if you ever plan going on a FL vacation...DON'T GO IN THE SUMMER...there are other times of the year that are much more pleasant, like "winter" (winter doesn't really exist in FL) or spring. The weather is much more pleasant, and it won't ruin your Disney vacation with summer rains (and you don't get eaten alive by the mosquitoes and gnats). Personally, I love the summer storms. They are wonderful. There's nothing like the sky suddenly getting dark, the wind blowing fast, thunder and lighting all over the place; and then, the rain. Ah, the rain, it rains so heavily that you can barely see when driving and the rain drops are so big it hurts when they fall on you. That's Florida's nature. I really missed that when I lived in Cali. I guess I just can't have it all.

On with my tale. So, I finally worked up the courage to go step out of the house, and do something with the kids...it was more like the kids were crawling up the walls and driving me crazy, since they're used to being outdoors all the time. Where to go that's not so hot? The library? Closed. The beach? Too hot in the day. Fine, the $1.00 movie theater at the mall. All of those who know me, know that I'm not a fan of going to the mall, or having my children watch TV/movies longer than 30-45 minutes...however, desperate times, calls for desperate measures.

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention...I took my dad's truck on this particular day...I didn't know the A/C didn't work...so, as you can see in the photos (above), my children are covered in sweat, while Arden and I sing the song "Feeling hot, hot, hot...[and sweaty]." Yep, that was our theme song for the day we went to the movies.

Okay, so I'm starting to sound pessimistic...I think that was the worst part of our vacation...the rest was fun. Well, with the exception of the mosquitoes that were eating us alive, but we survived. No West Nile Virus for us!

We had a chance to see lots of family and friends.

Arden enjoyed playing my brother's guitar and making up his own songs. He also enjoyed arguing with my cousin Dean who was also visiting FL from Germany.

Maya learned to push the small chairs around the house while walking...I thought that was a big accomplishment. One of the days, while Mayita napped, Arden and I tried putting a wooden car together. The instructions were designed for children to read, so I couldn't put the car together, for a while. No comment.
Finally, my little brother and his friend revised my work, made fun of me, and told me how to fix the problem...

And

Tah Da!

We completed the car.

Arden was getting bit bored, since the project was taking me a long time to complete. In the end, he was more excited about the stickers that go in the car, than the actual car...go figure.
